The Sunrisers Hyderabad is missing the services of Kevin Pietersen a lot.
Pietersen has distanced himself from the Indian Premier League this year to play in the domestic circuit back home and make a claim to be picked in the England national team again.
The new president of ECB has given Pietersen the assurance that regardless of what happened in the past, if he shows form at the first class level and be somewhere in the top faction of the run scoring chart, he will be considered for selection again.
As far as Pietersen’s contract with the Sunrisers is concerned, it’s not been terminated.
Both the parties have reached a deal if the Sunrisers qualify for the playoffs, Pietersen will make his way to India and join the team.
If Pietersen had been there with the Sunrises right from the start this season, the Orange shirts would have been much stronger.
Currently, if you see the Sunrisers line up, they have got a very solid opening pair, but, when it comes to the middle order, they are a little vulnerable and that’s why, the openers, sometimes, are a bit reluctant going all guns blazing in the power play.
With Pietersen being there, batting at no. 4, it would have been a different story.
And, he is in fine form at the moment, Pietersen. Playing for Surrey in a county game recently, he smashed 170.
Although, the Sunrisers have a couple of other utility players to play in the middle order, the likes of Williamson and Morgan, but, they don’t bring as much to the table as Pietersen does.
In India, you need to have good skills as a batsman to handle spin and that’s where Pietersen is different from the other overseas players. He is as good a player against spin as he is against pace.
